I don't know the best answer for you- as in if you are willing to spend top dollar on very premium product, but in general, I'd have to think clutch hydraulics don't have anywhere near the heat issues brake calipers do, so I'd opt for the fluid with the most hygroscopic capacity (one that can soak up a lot of moisture before it stops working well and preventing rust).

I've heard DOT3 can soak up more water than DOT4, but, because of that, the boiling point on DOT3 tends to be lower, especially if it isn't new. The only thing might be a heat concern is the proximity to the exh pipe for the slave unit.

DOT 3 or 4 brake fluid.

Jeff,

I went by "Ranger's" recommendation for Z06s and got
Prestone DOT4. I also follow what he suggests in checking fluid every few months and removing it if dark. With his method, it's fairly simple to use a "turkey baster" or syringe to remove and replace fluid until it remains clear after pumping.

Dot 3 here too.

As it happened, I had the slave removed to install the new clutch, and I almost inadvertently found that purging the system by compressing the slave piston reeeeaaaaly sped up the whole process considerably!

I loosened the bleeder, compressed the plunger on the slave, and was rewarded with a black stream of fluid! I kept the reservoir full and repeated the process 2-3 more strokes was all before the fluid was clear!

I had little or no air getting in, so within just a dozen or so pumps of the clutch pedal, I had full pressure.

I "turkey basted" the reservoir a couple times to remove all black flecks and to assure the fluid was crystal clear.

Good luck!

P.

As for fluid, I knew clutch fluid or brake fluid would work, but I thought Bill B recommended some specific type, other then OEM. I will be at the dealer tomorrow so maybe I will check for the OEM stuff too

I'd like to bring this TTT and see it there are any more recommendations.

Bill B's site states: When Bleeding the Clutch Hydraulic System, we recommend using Dot4 Full Synthetic Brake Fluid
http://www.zfdoc.com/clutch_hydraulic.htm

Motul RBF600 Synthetic DOT 4 brake fluid is about $15 for 1/2 liter bottle.

Other brand Synthetic DOT 4 is ~$7 for 12 oz.

I stumbled across this too:
Corvette Fluids: GM/Delco Supreme II Brake Fluid

I use the stock GM/Delco stuff. There have been treads via email on using brake fluid. Results were an eventual squeak when pressing the peddle in.
