You do have to remove that panel. The one with the gills in it. There's a screw on the top in the engine bay, I think one or two that attach it to the fender liner, and then the secret is the two nuts you have to loosen at the bottom. If you notice the gap at the bottom of the gill panel and the lower rocker is a little wide, you can fit an open-ended wrench in there to loosen those two nuts.

Once you do it once, the panel comes off and goes on pretty easily. But it seems pretty weird the first time.

Wolverinemw,

I think this is what you're looking for. It helped me way back when.

Thanks for the help. It is done, done wrong unfortunately. I bought a battery with both side and top connections. The top positive post almost hit a bracket, I left the caps on and wrapped the positive in tape and put a wad of electrical tape between the tapped post and the bracket. This is the best I can do as the new owner is coming tomorrow to pick it up. I will tell him about it and he will have to change it to a side post. I wanted to give him a new battery as the one in the car was getting weak. No good deed goes unpunished. Thanks for your help.
