The Galena Run: Date revised!
It's coming together! - an "end of season" gathering where spouses (or significant "others") are encouraged to join!
Place: Galena IL Dates: Saturday & Sunday, OCTOBER 22-23 (This is a revised set of dates - all rooms booked on 8-9 due to local event that weekend) This will be the first annual "end of season" event; a celebration of another year of fellowship and good times that includes those spouses n such that put up with us and our passion all year long. Galena IL is an old Mississippi River town, replete with a quaint old style main street, filled with antique shops, pubs, fine eateries, and music. And, the best part is getting there...and back! All are welcome to join in - don't have to be a Z driver, tho it is a defacto "Corvette" event. We'll lift a glass and toast all Vette nuts, no matter what they drove to town! Ingress: Folks may be coming from neighboring states (certainly hope so!) and those may want to group up and pick a route to caravan to Galena. As for the FBI gang (or anyone else driving west through IL to get there), the plan is to form up in Morris, IL at the Wal Mart parking lot around 10AM, and then caravan over to Galena via a route hugging the south bank of the IL River to Starved Rock, then northwest on a smooth (and not heavily traveled) roads to the Mississippi. There the route goes north along the Mississip - some very scenic traveling - winding our way to arrive in Galena around 2 PM ish. Once there the group is free to mingle among the shops and take in some history and sights until we gather for dinner at around 6:30** and after convene at one of the pubs where people can visit or dance or ?? before retiring. Egress: For those heading EAST on Sunday morning (as most of the FBI gang will be), there has been a very nice route scouted out, very scenic, and the road is wide, smooth and has "a few" twist and turns to make traveling it "interesting". Everyone is "on their own" on Sunday, but should you be going east and want to caravan toward home, we'll group up at a time and location (to be announced) and roar out from there! As for lodging, everyone is of course free to pick and choose, but I'll find a nice place with a parking lot where we can put the cars; a place that serves breakfast, too (and has a bar in it?? shweet!). And, the dinner location is narrowed down to about 3 locations - just have to check on some details. So, keep an eye on this post for announcements in the coming days regarding dinner location and suggested lodging arrangements. PLEASE! If this is something you would like to attend, post up here so I can get a running idea of how many to expect. This is important as it affects lodging and dinner location considerations. This is going to be a fun gathering. So, post up and contact your friends. Tho it is organized by the ZR-1 Brotherhood, it is not exclusive to Zs. Let's have fun and introduce a few newbs to the Z fever. It is a little over just a month away, so mark your calenders now! P.
