Drain plug mod
I know you can buy these but nothing on the shelf uses neodymium magnets they are incredibly strong. I happen to have quite a few in my home machine shop drawers. I took a 1/2" one and used a 1/2" drill and machined the end of my drain plug on my lathe now if you don't have a lathe a drill press will do just fine. It went in with a nice press fit. I have put these on all of my cars drain plugs I even dangle one in the power steering reservoir on stainless wire on all my cars. And I have always been amazed how much more fine particulates they collect then regular magnets. The more I can catch before it goes through the oil pick up the better. Also I don't think it will hurt any NCRS points
just thought I would share. Dave |

Re: Drain plug mod
Very Nice!!!
As far as the NCRS issue, you can't see the magnet when the plug is installed so it should not have any point deduction. On the oil pan issue, when I had my 1990 judged at a Regional meet I got hit with a point deduction because my drain plug did not have a white nylon washer, it had the metal washer with the rubber insert. I do not believe the NCRS manual is correct on this issue since the Z was a very low mileage car. I changed it to a white nylon washer for judging at an NCRS National event and had no points deducted. Just thought I would pass this along. John

Re: Drain plug mod
The NCRS manual is wrong - again. Never had a plastic washer ...
