Tire pressure
I have Goodyear F1 GS-D3's on my car and am wondering what tire pressure you others guys are using. The max PSI is 51. Just curious as my car seems to ride "hard". I am at 50 PSI and think that I could go lower for a more "softer" ride without giving up too much in the speed department (not that I go that fast). Any suggestions??

Re: Tire pressure
I have had the F1 GSD 3's for over three years. I run 33-35 p.s.i. front and 33 p.s.i. rear for normal driving. Excellent wear. Auto-Cross I run 42 in the front and 39 in the rear. Drag racing, 21 p.s.i. and they are very sticky. I have a couple of 60 foot times in the 1.8's!!! I love 'um! Time to buy new rears!

Re: Tire pressure
I run around 32 psi. I think the car rides good at that psi.

Re: Tire pressure
The max PSI stamped on the sidewall is the rated maximum pressure the tire can handle at load. It is NOT a recommendation to use that pressure. I would imagine at 50psi you will get some uneven wear of the tire.
The door sticker on my car suggests 30psi. This is based on the tire size and load rating, and a different brand of tire that meets the same size/load rating would be similarly inflated. A GS-D3 doesn't need 20psi more than a GS-C just because of the rated sidewall markings. I would think a pressure in the 30-40psi range would be a lot better in terms of traction and wear. Interestingly, the door sticker says 30psi, but I just noticed the service manual says 35psi for coupes.

Re: Tire pressure
I use 33-35 psi on my D3's. I have to go check my door sticker & see what it says? I thought 35 psi was on it & in the owner's manual? I've tried 30 f/r but I didn't like that too much...too mushy in the twisties. It seems to me if I use less psi in the rears than the fronts by just a couple of lbs the car is a bit more toward understeer?
I gotta find a driving school so I can relearn all this stuff...it's been too long between vettes!

Re: Tire pressure
At 50 PSI it does ride like a wagon but this is what the tire man told me run with these tires. Didn't sound right but who am I to question the tire man. I will put 35 PSI all around and see what the difference will be. I imagine the ride will be very smooth. Thanks for all your help guys

Re: Tire pressure
I usually run 30 front 28 rear cold on the street. Either you misunderstood your tire man or he is a complete idiot and its time for a new tire guy. Some truck tire require high pressure as mentioned, but not any passenger class tire.

Re: Tire pressure
My mistake, the door says 35psi on mine too. So I pumped 'em up today to that.
