Stage III 350 Cam Project
I just finished installing big cams in my 350 (big for a 350).
SGC Stage III intakes .242 .450 SGC Stage I exhaust .228 .420 I was kind of worried at first thought maybe too much cam for 350 ci. That worry went away 2 days ago when i fired her up it sounds fast and drives like a stock Z you only notice the cams at idle. I was tuning her so i try a 2nd gear pull, yeah right that didn't go so well it spun all thru 2nd i'm on BFG DR's, i decide 3rd gear a little better but i can feel the rear end floating around i had to be very alert just in case she decided to come around on me. AFR's were very lean very high 13's some 14.0's i added 12% WOT for now to be safe. For the non believers of big cams in a 350 ci after you drive my Z you will believe. I do not feel any low end loss actually it feels faster across the board. DynoJet is better then my butt dyno,we'll see. If she runs as good as she sounds i will be one happy dude. Gyros for everybody. Pete

Awesome! So it sounds like you think this is going to show a net power gain over your previous configuration - can't wait to see some dyno results.

Re: Stage III 350 Cam Project
Whats the throttle response like in 6th gear at slower freeway speeds?
What gears are you running? Driveability success with higher duration cams is in large part due to the person who is doing the calibration. I can hardly wait for the objective data. I am in "talks" with a cam manufacturer in regards to brand new LT5 camshafts. $950 for 1 single LT5 camshaft is just craziness IMO, esp. for a flat tappet camshaft. I'm sure folks around here would be happy to have source of even blanks to release the monopoly that is currently being experienced. peace Hog |

It drives like a stocker you don't notice cams till you stop and idle,it pulls nice from a stop and had her down to 1200 RPM cruising walk into the throttle she pulls smooth no bucking no coughing no spitting if it did that cams would be coming out. Like you said it's in the tune. I have 4.10 gears for now thinking of going back to my 3.45's i like running to 60MPH with no shifts. As of right now i don't see any drewback to the cams. Yes,we do need another cam source. Before .236 .425 In .220 .415 Ex Now .242 .450 .228 .420 Kevin (Polo1) if it bucks under 1900 it's in the tune like i mentioned i took it down to 1200 and no bucking pulls smooth. I will have another FBI member drive it tomorrow and they can post there findings. Believe me when i say if it did stupid stuff they would be coming out. The only drewback not so much a drewback just the nature of big cams, set the idle at 950 but with big cams it sounds more like it's at 700 I will try and get video of the idle and exhaust sound. Pete

Anywayz, I'm jazzed to hear those big cams still have street manners too! C-ya 2 nite and hopefully tomorrow as well for the big event! P.

Re: Stage III 350 Cam Project
Yeah if it makes some good power as a 350 I'd prefer to upgrade mine and keep the bottom end stock.
