WMD - Clutch Work - 5 September in Westminster, MD
Hello from Westminster.
What a great weekend at Carlisle! We had 17 WAZOO ZR-1's at the show. There will be a Westminster Maintenance Day on Sunday, 5 September. Scheduled work so far is to replace the slipping clutch in Yun's 1994 and then troubleshoot and repair/replace the clutch in my 1993. So it looks like two transmission pulls on the same day. Come on by for the fun!!! If anyone has any maintenance items they want to tackle, come on over. We will be getting started early, 0730 (7:30AM). If you need directions, give me a call. I agree that Carlisle was a GREAT time and the WAZOO fellers were well represented.
I will be there at 0730 & I don't think 2 trans pulls in 1 day will be a problem at all!

Yun, The clutch on my 1994 failed. Symptoms are pedal went to the floor like a clutch fluid leak. Upon refill of the resovoir, the clutch pedal has no movement. Probobly a broken fork or throwout bearing. We will see.

I can't stay too long, my niece has a b'day party at noon. But I'll be heading out in a bit to see some clutches!

WMD was a success. We finished Yun's clutch repalcement by 3 PM and then replaced the throwout bearing in my car in 2 1/2 hours.
Both cars running great! Jim |

Jim,
A full days work I'm sure. Sorry I could not join you guys. What failed on the old throwout bearing? Phil |

Here is the failed throwout bearing spread out to show the parts: This is the flared piece that broke off: All of the parts shown stayed on the input shaft. The only piece that was missing is the spring clip/ring that positions the throwout bearing during assembly. There were a lot of scratches on the block, the flywheel, the clutch and the bell housing. We believe that the spring clip was ground to dust, and exited through the valley drain hole. Is this the same failure that occurred on your clutch recently? Jim |

All mine did was break off one of the retainer tabs which allowed the retainer ring to fly off and rattle around in the bellhousing until became hung up on the clutch fork. |

And it was cool seeing that Goat. Maybe I'm from the wrong generation, because I can't imagine owning and driving something like that, but they sure are cool to see and hear. And that one looked and sounded great!
