Tried that it comes back instantly when I start the car, I will pull the plenum and recheck the wiring, etc

G. M.s Misunderstood Codes
CODE 42 By Roy, BAT Auto Technical,Technical Editor Probably the most misunderstood code (s) are the ones that deal with quad driver circuit faults like 26, 27, 28, and 29. These are covered in part 2 of my G.M. ECM RESETS article. Why EST?

Re: 90 is up and running; Code 42
Saw one of -=Jeff=-s old posts.....might be a ground issue, need to check the bellhousing grounds.

Re: 90 is up and running; Code 42
Lee,
Any chance the crank sensor wire was pinched with install of headers? |

Re: 90 is up and running; Code 42
Nope, sensor is fine.
Anyone that can list FSM for Code 42? I know ECM Connecter D12 is the bypass, with the ignition off, I connected the D12 to the battery and it pulled current. Does that mean that the bypass is grounded out somewhere between the ECM and DIS?

Re: 90 is up and running; Code 42
Lee,
It's setting a Code 42 as soon as it starts because the ECM is not picking up timing once rpms hit 400+. The fact that it runs means that ignition module is doing what it's supposed to. And it's running in bypass. I'm assuming that when you turn key to ON, the CEL will flash once and then stay on, Correct? |
