Pete,
With ported heads would you recommend Stage 1 intakes and stock exhaust? Or Stage 1 all around? Ideas as to $ for either. |

Yes,stock exhaust cams with Stage I intakes will not gain you much. For low cost i would do Stage II intakes with stock exhaust,if money no object i would do Stage II with a .220 exhaust. Man i can wright a book on this stuff, so since you asked, Remember we have a 7k RPM limit with stock/ported intake bigger exhaust cams want to push power to higher RPM. Pete

Thanks for sharing your significant knowledge on cam selection. Without appearing to create a controversy, Marc H. does not recommend a cam upgrade for a 5.7L motor when porting heads. Why do you believe a stock displacement motor could gain (how much?) using Stage 2 intakes. Can you provide Lift/Dur on Stage 2's? Thx |

Dom,as you know i have very high respect for Marc H. but recommending and choosing to do so are 2 different things. I'll explain, not recommended could be a couple of reasons 1: idle quality some don't like the idle/sound of a camming car or for the price not worth the gains 2: some think bigger is better in a small cube motor i think there is a point where you can go overboard. Stage II cam specs are .237 .440, i would not reccommend installing Stage II exhaust cams on a small cube motor you will loose too much low end power and driveability suffers what i would reccommend for exhaust with these are around 15 degrees less exhaust. I will be trying Stage III intakes .242 .450 with Stage I exhaust cams .228 .415 i would like to go a bit smaller exhaust like a .224-.226 duration with a bit more lift .430-.450 we'll see what happens.
