Door lock and security alarm
When I had the car painted recently, I had the shop switch door lock cylinder betrween the driver side and passenger side since I had been using only the driver side to unlock. I stopped using PKE fob because I hate bulging pocket.
Since the switch, when I unlock the door it triggers the alarm. I have to insert the key, turn counter clock wise (turns off the alarm) and then turn the key clock wise and re-unlock. I use the power lock button to arm and lock doors. I pulled the door panel yesterday to figure out what is going on but can't. Has anyone had a similar situation? Bad switch connected to the door lock cylinder? I could not find an appropriate section in the factory manual. Any help would be appreciated. |

Re: Door lock and security alarm
I had that happen to me once on another car, and it turned out that the wire connections on the lock themselves were not properly attached (loose connection)

Re: Door lock and security alarm
Hmmm...
Sounds like a pain in the a$$ work - tiny space, no room to stick my hand in, etc... Any tips? Do I need to pull the lock cylinder and disassemble? I saw a sort of white plastic thing on the cylinder w/ 2 wires coming out of it. I presume this is what you are talking about? Last edited by secondchance; 05-17-2010 at 01:31 PM. |

I have the same problem on my 1994 ZR-1. The alarm sounds if I open the door with the key from the drivers side, but not from the passenger side. I plan to look at the door lock switch. Come on up and we can do two at once troubleshooting. Jim

I need to change out sway bar bushings. I was at Advanced Auto Parts and they loan out the tool I need for this job. Do you have any suspension work pending? I take it you are back from BG? |

Re: Door lock and security alarm
A trick is to drop the door latch to get to the door lock switch.
I will have to make one of your events. |

Re: Door lock and security alarm
Start with removing the door panel, to remove the bolt that holds the door handle, you have to remove the 3 screws that hold the door latch, then let the door latch slide down to access the bolt to remove the door handle..
My bet is you have a bad switch on the back of the door lock, I have a spare from an 87 that may be the same that I could bring when your doing this...( if I can find it) |
