Anyone going to BG and want to trouble shoot a L98 that I am restoring?
I am coming up from Birmingham for the week of the gathering. I have a 86 C4 that I have just started a restoration project on (its rough right now but thats the way I like them - it will top flight NCRS like the rest of them in a year or two). It runs and idle fairly rough even though I didnt do the internals, I went through top end when I got it for preventative maint purposes,(intake gasket, valve cover gaskets) new ignition (cap, rotor, wires, coil, plugs) all new injectors and fuel pump (car had been sitting). cleaned tank. cleaned throttle body. Set timing and did idle air factory reset per manual. Cranks and runs ok...just not crisp and has a slight hunting idle. Wondered if you would have time to give me just an hour or two of your expertise (my current thinking is it could need throttle body replacing although no visable damage or a vacuum problem with the egr system - I rebuilt all the vacuum hoses.)
thanks! This car is a 4+3 car - no interior (have it stripped) paint peeling...gonna soda blast. I know, in case some one posts) that I can BUY a nice 86 for next to nothing but I enjoy restoring these cars, I also am involved in Corvette show judging and I get a lotof valuable research doing these types of projects. If I can get some help, I will trailer this car up instead of ZR1 #278 corvette95@charter.net Chris

You should bring it to BG; Gordon Killebrew will be there and he have you squared away in no time.

Thats what I was going to say gordon will Be there Have you ever been to a gathering? Forgive me because I can't recall if you have or not anyway if not..
He sets up his truck and he is set up for drive through trouble shooting, drive it over and he will work his magic if its electrical he can fix it or if not Im sure he can at least tell you what is wrong. Thats what I would do!

its a more in depth project than Gordon will want to get in to at the Gathering. This is a ground up restore.

I know what a ground up restore is but you said you need help trouble shooting for an hour or two thats what he does, so Im not sure what your post really means that you have to bring up ground up restore? Good luck with it but im sure you might want to leave it at home if you don't think he can help

Re: Anyone going to BG and want to trouble shoot a L98 that I am restoring?
I have the interior out of the car, the exterior is soda blasted, I have gone through the basics of the engine to get it running. I have another L98 that will go in this car when its done. Gordon sets up right in front of the museum, this car wouldnt look good sitting in front of the museum plus would hate to ask Gordon to work on this car with me, I know Gordon, have for many years, taken all of his schools. I am thinking of vacuum leaks or a bad throttle body or bad distributor etc or maybe a mechanical problem -. I want to be able to drive this short distances while I restore it a little bit at a time and I thought a new set of eyes might see something I keep overlooking. My last one took four years to restore.
