Does anyone really know how to solve the C5's colum lock issue. My brother has an 02 Z06 that is acting up, and he had the recall done, and tried some kit he found for it, and nothing works. He has been taking advice from the other forum, but I find the guys on here usually more knowledgeable and trustworthy.
He is getting married this weekend and plans to drive off in the vette happily ever after etc. It would suck if it wont start or steer or whatever happens when that thing screws up. Thanks to anyone that knows what to do. |

I don't have any technical advice, but I owned two C5's, a 1997 and a 2003. The recall was done on the '03, but I never experienced the problem on either vehicle and I had put over 30,000 miles on both during my ownership.
My suggestion is if he is concerned, to have a backup plan. Don't let a car problem/concern ruin his big day. ![]()

I had a 99 and the column locked up on it. I had the recall done with no further problems. I later bought a new 2004 and decided to just remove the lock plate in the column prior to any problems. I would suggest trying that. I never had a problem after it was removed, so I don't know if that fixed it or I just was lucky. Isn't not too hard to do but you will need a special tool to remove it.

Make sure you get both the bulletins done. I'm pretty sure you have to install the CLB before you have a problem. Many people decide to forgo the dealer and order the CLB or Column Lock Bypass and just do it themselves. It's $50 and an hour of your time. Good luck! Many vendors sell it and I'm not sure if this is the cheapest place however here it is: http://www.corvettesofhouston.com/pr...products_id=54 Last edited by xlr8nflorida; 03-10-2010 at 03:07 PM. |
