If i ask a dumb question will everyone please make fun of me ??
okay, my back hatch gas cylinder thingys must be on empty
cause my back hatch has trouble staying open. I'm assuming they are the same for all C4 Corvette's Where is the best place to buy new ?? Any tricks of the trade to replace ? thanks in advance.

I thought making fun of Keith was required here. But, it is an easy shot when Keith posts a problem with keeping it up.
I don't have a source for them, but I will say that they are easy to replace. Have a helper support the glass. Disconnect the wire that goes to the rear defogger. Then there is a clip that you can pry out with a small screw driver. Then the cylinder just pops off the ball and socket joint. Jim

Try a local place first, then MidAmerica or Even Rock Auto Sells them

Just saw the handle out of an old broom and prop it up. You`ll save the pain of replacement and your money too.

Keith, just look around for hatch struts. You can still get them from GM (my preference) or aftermarket.
To replace, you need to prop the hatch up, or have a second person to help. As soon as you remove one bad strut, the other will not support the hatch. You need to have a small screwdriver or pick to undo the retaining clasp. |
