Not good.
While changing the right rear wheel bearing, the 36mm spindle nut wasn't even tight. That sent a chill up my spine. I mean sure it has a keeper with a cotter pin that won't let the nut completely come off but I'm sure you get going fast enough it would'nt matter. I'm curious to see if the drivers side rear is the same way. So there may have been nothing wrong with the wheel bearings at all. Oh well its getting new ones now. So for anybody who thinks they've got a vibration do to bad wheel bearings check your wheel spindle nuts first. It may be as simple as that. Not everything that goes wrong with these cars is complicated.

Re: Not good.
Hmmm, interesting. I'll add that to the list of things I need to check on my '90 Z.

Re: Not good.
If it had the cotter pin was still installed it seems to me like someone didn't tighten it correctly.

Re: Not good.
Not only that but on the same right rear one of the lug nuts was pulverized/cross threaded. I can thank NTB for that. Before they put the vreds on 1 1/2 years they were fine. I mean what do I have to do? Buy my own tire mounting machine to because they can't do that right either. And when I had my exhaust welded on those damn rednecks scratched my 49th streets rocker panal.
Anyway that's probably why that tire had unusual wear on the inside and probaby caused traction problems at the strip. When there is only 1/4 of your tire is making contact with the ground that will cost you dearly. Last edited by rhipsher; 01-30-2010 at 10:08 PM. |

Re: Not good.
Well after putting everything back together and taking it fo a spin I am happy to report the vibration is still there. hehehe. Oh well I had nothing better to do today but waist money on parts I didn't need and waste my day working on something that didn't solve anything. Back to the drawing board. I hate suspension issues.

Re: Not good.
Hey Rick,
is it possible that the loose spindle nut caused the tire to get scalloped, do you think it's possible? I'm thinking that if the tread got scalloped, the scallops could cause it to vibrate? What about the lug stud holes on the wheel, could they be ovaled out due to the loose spindle nut? I know I'm shooting in the dark here! I hear you about some of those "tire technicians"....I had to stop one going after my lug nut covers with an impact gun once. I would have paid money to have seen the expression on my face! Of course, later that yr I got a flat and found that they had cross threaded three lugs on my right rear. I feel for you. Tom

Well I tend to try and just take my wheels in and have the tires done If I can get away with it. Unreal that some Fuk can't instal a tire without crossthreading the lugs stupid kids with a impact gun

Re: Not good.
I agree but I don't have a truck. And when you stack two 315's on eachother they are so wide that I can't even close the trunk. I miss having a truck. Forget the Bmw/merc or next vette. I'm getting a truck.
