Paging Jeffvette/Fikse barrel swap
I have enough Fikse wheels to put together a 9.5 inch wheel with a 89-96 C-4 /ZR-1 offset. Question for those who may know. Is it possible for a layman to change out the barrels on the 3 piece Fikse and not have a problem. Bunch of screws on the inside to break loose and redo. Looks like a job for Superman !! Just asking in case I cannot locate (2) 9.5 inch X 17 Fikse FM/5 wheels.

Re: Paging Jeffvette/Fikse barrel swap
I have had my 3 peice wheels apart twice in the past 2yrs, No problem!
40 little bolts per wheel PITA! I can't see how you wouldn't be able to switch them up. |

Re: Paging Jeffvette/Fikse barrel swap
Not sure about Fikse 3 piece and how different from CCWs, but as Ricky stated not difficult and here are videos from CCW (gotta love their service).

Re: Paging Jeffvette/Fikse barrel swap
FYI, a friend of mine bought some used 17x13" wheels for his Z. The previous owner used them for racing, so they needed some cleaning. He called Fikse to ask how easily the barrel can be taken apart.
They said that they are put together with some special process/tools, and if you took them apart by hand you would not get them back together properly. I thought most 3-piece wheels could be taken apart with no prob, but that is not what Fikse said. It could be it's true, could be the guy on the phone didn't know what he was talking about (my friend hardly got good service from them when ordering fronts to go with the used wheels he bought). I don't know. Just passing on what they said.

Re: Paging Jeffvette/Fikse barrel swap
I took apart my Shelby Series 1's and resealed them with silicon caulking, worked fine.

Re: Paging Jeffvette/Fikse barrel swap
Greg if you do it carefully I bet you could break it down. May need to know the torque when you need to put it back together

Re: Paging Jeffvette/Fikse barrel swap
To add to my experience I took apart and reassembled 3 piece HREs for outer rim repair and no problems. I'll be taking out the centers of my CCW classics to be powder coated black next month.

Re: Paging Jeffvette/Fikse barrel swap
Years ago I took a set of 3 piece wheels apart and nicked the sealant in the center seam, didnt pay too much attention and got a leak.As long as the torque sequence is followed and the seal is made I dont think there would be a problem.

Re: Paging Jeffvette/Fikse barrel swap
The big thing is the difference in the inner and outer barrel pieces. And the hubs being machined for a different thickness.
Most of the time, the way they are put together, you will not need to reseal them. |
