Sticking Brakes
Not sure which one or how, but after a while driving around I will notice my brake pedal become rock hard up high and that my car won't roll back if stopped on a hill. I can drive and if it cools down it goes back to normal. I was thinking about taking it up to brake check, but figured I'd see what y'all think first.

Re: Sticking Brakes
took the car out this morning to see whats what, under very hard braking I can activate the ABS light and it feels like it cycles once, then the car will slide into a cloud of smoke. I end up with both front tires in skid, based on the width of the tire marks and my 335's on the rear I can deduce the rear brakes are not locking up, just the fronts. Correct me if I'm wrong, but my car should not skid correct? What can lead to this condition?

Re: Sticking Brakes
i can only handle so much frustration, gonna let the pros do a few things- brakes, suspension bushings, and an alternator.

Re: Sticking Brakes
Might be your brake master cylinder how often do you change your brake fluid? Does the car pull when you brake? My friends 95 Z would not roll when brakes would heat up we replaced MC all good.

Re: Sticking Brakes
Have you ever changed your front brake lines? I had an issue the same as you it was the inside of the front lines had gotten soft and were collapsing not letting the fluid go back to the master cylinder. As soon as I released the pressure by opening the bleeder on the caliper it released.

That would be my first suspect! Explains the locking of front only. M/C usually would affect all 4 the same. The "cooldown" that fixes things might be a slow bleed off of the pressure, which could also point back to the M/C or the relaxing of the faulty hoses. I would suggest switching to braided stainless lines on all 4 wheels as a good starting point, after inspecting all 4 calipers and lines for leaks. Keep us posted on progress! Marty |
