Default Clunk upon engaging clutch on shifts - ? normal or not

On my 1991 ZR1 with very low miles, I get a clunk sound on engagement of clutch (That is after shifting, and upon letting clutch out) when shifting in low gears. It seems to be less when shifting at higher engine speeds. Is this a function of the dual mass flywheel, a loose mount, or just normal for the ZR1?

Bert,

I suggest putting your car on the lift and checking that all of the drive train components are secure. We can check the C-Beam, drive shaft, half shafts, all 6 U-Joints, the hubs and the lugs.

We will be having a Westminster Maintenance Day on Sunday, 9 October. If you want to look at it sooner, I am busy on the weekends but if you give me a call we can look at it some evening.

I suggest beam plates.

I'll throw my. 02 in the hat. No its not normal. But I've heard the same sound on low mile ZR-1s to with only 20k on them. Some components wear out do to use. And others are age related regardless of how few miles are on the car. Clunk is usually a Ujoints issue. To test for loose beam bolts just look at your stick shifter upon hard acceleration. If it moves a 1/2 or more then your beam bolts are loose and you need to get Bills beam plates. I would take Jim up on his offer. I think he has a lift.

Thanks for the input. I am going to take Jim up on his offer to stop over one night and stick her on the lift and have a look. I also hope to join WAZOO for the Westminster Maintenance Day on Sunday, 9 October. My shifter doesn't lift on acceleration btw, so maybe beam bolts are ok.
