Best Fuel Economy
Thought I would mention that at the 2017 Eureka Springs Corvette Weekend, I drove my 1993 #180 to victory in the Fuel Economy Run with and average of 42.4 miles per gallon. I beat my former record set in 2015 driving my 2015 C7 coupe automatic by 1 tenth of a gallon per mile.

Re: Best Fuel Economy
Some of the things I did are as follows:
Tires 44lbs Fill tank very slow with car pointing down hill if possible upon the return fill car very fast with car pointing up hill if possible in my case I had to fill with the car nearly level both times Use the highest non ethanol fuel which is 91 in the mid west Do not turn on the power key to 405hp Practice lugging 6th gear down to 30mph. Always increase speed going down hill to make the next hill with out a down shift Push the clutch in any time that the RPM will lower if you can coast Fuel use is less with the engine lugging when the RPM are lower than normal idle like 700 RPM at 28mph. Only do this on level ground or slightly down hill. Turning the engine off when at stops with traffic in front Start up in 2nd gear and go to 5th at 20mph If you practice and notice any pinging add octane booster (I did not need it) Use the rear window latch that allows the rear glass to be open and turn off the air. Also crack the side windows slightly if the cabin is uncomfortable My computer showed 31mpg and the roads were curvy and hilly The rest is in the other tips 77 miles on 1.816 gallons of fuel I tried to turn the key off and coast with the key back on and restart with the clutch, but the odometer does not work on my 93 if the engine is not running. The mileage is taken at the start and finish, therefore I had to leave the engine running the entire time Dave |

You did a great job Dave! I enjoyed meeting you and your wife at Eureka, and your Z is beautiful. I was also cool that we were able to have our Z's side by side for the show, they attracted a lot of attention.

Re: Best Fuel Economy
Hi Shawn,
I did not realize the reply was from you at first. Thanks, I presume that I can look up your actual email address for future reference. Certainly agree that it was nice to meet you also. Dana & I go to car shows any more just to meet new people. I have tried for 7 years to win something in this show, I think I mentioned that this is a political event. It turned out that I got third because I joined the LoanStar club last week. 1st & 2nd were also LoanStar members. I know I also had help from LakeOzark which I am also a member. but last year I decided to join 2 clubs for this year. Go figure. Dave |

Re: Best Fuel Economy
That is impressive, but the way you fill the car is cheating (not sure that is the right word, but it doesn't represent actual mileage gains).

Re: Best Fuel Economy
I will agree but since others do this it is what happens. The good news is that I really did get 31 on the computer and that would have won my class also. I was told about the filling method several years ago by someone else who got outrageous economy. Not trying to hide anything here just trying to let it be out there on how it works at Eureka Springs

Your car looked great and the paint was awesome. I am glad to see a Z take an award. I have been going to this show for years, and only put a car in once or twice. I will do it every year from now on because I had such a great time visiting with everyone. Shawn |
