What spray paint to use? - ZR-1 Net Registry Forums

Decided to spray my cam covers etc. myself (have done some paint gun time in a past life, but been a good while ago). What brand of paint and clear coat should I be looking at? Of course, we're concerned about yellowing and the heat, etc, etc. I'm not familiar with Summit Racing's offerings at all. Any experience with any of those paints??

PS:

I should have mentioned too that I'm considering using a gloss black with red lettering for the cam covers, but leaving the plenum in BMW wheel silver; a two-tone scheme. So, BLACK is the center of my question, I suppose. But, who knows what the future might bring. So, any info on any paint/color is welcome!

Used the DuraColor Metalcast on my plenum.
2 step with a metalflake followed by color coat.
Then clear. Been 1 1/2 years with no sign of yellow.

Paul, I would use BMW wheel paint, mine has lasted on the plenum with no peeling or fading. I believe Hans has had the same result. The paint is made by Wurth. Wurth also makes a clear, might also consider using the VHT 2000 Degree ceramic clear, I tested this on emblems with no issues of fading or yellowing after 1000 miles.

Another option I have heard of is LPE. They have spray paint that looks
like the original. If you can find out what they use.........
Why not powder coat them? Much more durable and Jeff has
any color/combination you can dream of.

No paint is going to hold up under heat like powder coating will. And I'll tell you why. After I rebuilt my original 302 4V and before I put it back in the 68 mustang I preped everything and painted it with ford dark blue high heat engine paint. 4 coats. I also painted all of the pully's flat black just like factory and spayed cast iron coat on the exhaust manifolds. Everything was heat resistant up to 500 degrees. After about 6 years it started flaking off. And when I had to do a valve adjustment the first little bit of hot oil gets on anything the paint just curls up and waves by by. It just doesn't hold up like powder coat will. Paul you don't want to feel like you completely wasted your time
like I did messing with paint. Paint works fine for parts that don't get hot as a frying pan.

If you decide to go with a wet paint Dupont has a single stage gloss black in their Nason line.I painted a set of cam cover emblems and after a year they still looked good.

I used the paint zr net registry recommended grey, it's dupont vinyl, G9889J, it's been on for 3 years and has taken oil spill with no problems. Track oil temps of 240 and 230 water temps.
