Interesting but of absolutely no significance>>>
Remember the discussion about the exhaust mufflers being painted satin black and to what extent painted... whole can or just the end portion where the tips are?? I think I started it when I showed this pic>>
Several commented that the cans were not painted (except the end piece) and thus why are the ones on my ZR painted. I said they were painted and I refreshed the paint and pointed to a picture in the Heart of the Beast where a ZR was on the assembly line and it had the entire cans painted. No big deal just another mystery detail...then I spotted this on fleabay. Someone was/is selling OEM left over straight from the factory exhausts... note the cans>>> Dunno...another manufacturing inconsistency?

My cans were only painted on the bottom side, the tops were not painted at all. My system was taken off after a few thousand miles and stored away for all these years. I just put it back on last year. Looks to me that's the way it came, paint and finish looks like it is 19 yrs old.

On mine the tips were painted black but the actual mufflers were not painted at all.

Maybe JVD will post the background on these exhaust and the paint on the mufflers.
