Rear tie rod
When I removed the rear wheels for cleaning I noticed tie rod end rubber boot looked squished and ripped. So, I bought a pair of polyurethane boots. Then I read somewhere that the tie rod end have a plastic swivel joint in them.
My question is, do these joints wear out? After 105,000 miles, should I consider replacing the joint rather than just the boot? |

Re: Rear tie rod
I would expect worn rear toe rod component to exhibit the same characteristics as the front counterpart. With the tire off the ground & suspension compressed, if you can detect wheel movement in the horizontal axis, then it is time for replacement.

Re: Rear tie rod
Thanks guys. It makes perfect sense - jack up the car and see if I can wiggle the tire.

Re: Rear tie rod
Don't forget to compress the suspension at the wheel you are Testing.....if I understand Jerry correctly...which I may not!
