Shift Light Install
I am adding a shift light and was wondering if I could splice into the tach wire above the hush panel or do I have to go back to the ignition module??? Probably a stupid question but I want to make sure before I start slicing and dicing I think the wiring schematic shows a white wire for the tack input.

Re: Shift Light Install
you could splice into the wire going into the cluster for TACH.. otherwise, under hood at IM

Re: Shift Light Install
Run the tach lead through the firewall to the white wire you mentioned. It's in a plug near the ECM. I can't take a photo right now, but could in the morning & show you where it is and my shift light tie-in. No need to splice into the wire as I recall.

Re: Shift Light Install
Bob,
Took a few photos, pulled out a spare harness & photo-shopped a bit. I didn't have the connector to plug in to the receiving end of the plug shown, so I trimmed the end of the tach lead & tinned it until it fit snugly into the harness end of the F connector. After it was fitted, I threaded it through the cap, pushed it into the harness side & slid the cap down & installed it. The black retainer holds the wire in just fine & never had a problem. No cutting or splicing into the harness.

Re: Shift Light Install
Jerry,
Where did you snake wire thru firewall for shift light? I'm about to do this myself. |

Re: Shift Light Install
Thanks Jerry. I saw that one but I didn't think it was the right connector.

Re: Shift Light Install
Well, I can't remember & can't see it under the dash because it's probably under the insulation. I can see from the top that it goes down below the steering column but can't get under the car now to see it. Sorry I can't be of more help right now.

Re: Shift Light Install
If your installing the shift light in the vent.
You can pick up hot and ground from the center console the extra wires the factory has left for just this reason. They are by the hatch release botton (center console). Pete
