Need a louder exhaust. A few questions.
I've owned my 1991 ZR1 for over 6 months now and she is running and looking good after a lot of little issues were addressed a few months ago. Thank you to all on this forum who gave me advise and helped me out with some parts I needed. Now for the next step I'm getting my drivers seat fixed at an upholstery shop where the leather is starting to crack and some foam replaced and both seats redyed the factory color. Total cost about $190.00. I'm also going to clean the carpet and install a Hurst short throw shifter with a new leather boot. I will also be rewiring the aftermarket stereo and fixing a loose tilt column. Now the big question. The car has a borla cat back with a stock resonator. I will install headers down the road but I need a loud exhaust for the beast. I had B&B bullet cat back on my 03 Z06 and magnaflow cat back with off road X-pipe on my 03 Cobra. Both of these cars sounded great and were loud. A little droan doesn't bother me. If I replace the stock resonator with an X-pipe such as this http://www.magnaflowexhausts.com/pro...productid=6238 would that be enough or would I need to just run staright pipes in place of the borlas. If this X-pipe would work I could have an exhaust shop install it and if it still wasn't loud enough delete the mufflers as well. How does this sound. I here people talking about X-pipes alot but can never find a link or price to any online.

Re: Need a louder exhaust. A few questions.
x pipe prices are around 199 to 299 . the x pipe will get you some noise, but unless you go to a 368 or bigger you wont see any power gains by going to a 3 in (jhmo). my car trapps 120+ in the quarter with a custom 21/2 in exhaust with a drgas xpipe and spin tec mufflers . i lost low end tq when i tried a 3 in exhaust . thats my take on exhaust for our cars some may differ .its up to you to decide . if you want to here my exhaust go to u tube and type in joe shmoe12301230 and listen to one of the vids of the black car . the white car is corsa with headers and bullet cats.hope this helps

Re: Need a louder exhaust. A few questions.
Will that magnaflow X-pipe work with the rest of the stock exhaust and borla catback? I'm not really looking for a power gain. That will be later when I get headers and plenum/injector porting with a chip. Just looking for something loud and proud for now. After my other two cars I thought the exhaust was stock when I first drove the car. By the way Jeff I am looking to do the C5 brake upgragde. I have rotors, brackets and calipers. I just need braided brake lines, your adaptor brackets and perhaps some 1/4" spacers to work with the stock 91 wheels if my memory serves me correct. Do you have these parts and if so what is the pricing.

Re: Need a louder exhaust. A few questions.
There's no shortage of loud exhaust systems. The trick is getting one that doesn't have resonance. Resonance will drive you crazy after while. Many of us have gone through several systems for that very reason. There are only two that I am aware of that don't resonate (much). Corsa and Magnaflow.

Re: Need a louder exhaust. A few questions.
I don't drive the car that much so low to medium resonance does not bother me. My z06 had a lot of resonance at a certain RPM but i learned to drive around it. Luckily at 70 to 80 on the interstate in sixth I was below the RPM it would resonate at.

Re: Need a louder exhaust. A few questions.
if your Borla is 2.5" then the 2.5" Magnaflow x-pipe that you linked to in your 1st post should work with a little fab work. I think you will find that the pipes will not line up with the x-pipe to your existing system ... the x-pipe is wider, center to center.
Later, if you get headers which will most likely be 3", you can adapt your 2.5 exhaust to the 3" headers ... not a bad way to go. You can also look at some 2.75 Borlas or go all the way to 3" B&B and, I think, Magnaflows. Lots of choices ... but go to a gathering and listen to the different systems. Best way to make the correct choice the first time. George |

Re: Need a louder exhaust. A few questions.
Thanks for the advice. So many things I want to do so little time and money to do them all.
