Standard Vette Wheels On a ZR1?
Hello all,
I've got a 90 Zr-1 that needs new wheels all-around. I've got a guy near me that has a set of 4 regular 90 Corvette wheels (17X9.5) with tires for a very good price. The wheels look almost brand new. My questions is, how would the 9.5" wheels look on the rear? Would they be sitting in too much? Would it even work? If not, is there an adapter I can get to make it work? Thanks in advance for the help. |

It will work, but the rims will be sucked pretty far in underneath the fenders.

Would it be easily noticeable? If so, what kind of adapter could I buy to make the wheels stick out a bit more? Would 1.5 inch spacers/adapters do it?

It's easily noticeable. You can try it right now by putting your front wheel on the back. It doesn't look very good.

Re: Standard Vette Wheels On a ZR1?
JMHO......but I agree with Bob....it will look bad, and no amount of spacer will help the look. Not to mention you will never get any traction unless ya drive with an egg under to go pedal, and god only knows what the back end will do in a corner if ya goose it a bit too much....may swap ends on ya?
There has to be a local shop that can hook you up with a wheel refinishing company. Put her up on stands and get the wheels refinished....or you can buy a cheap set of correct off-set wheels from one of the knock-off guys till ya decide to have the OEM's redone. Those knock-off guys have A-molds usually at reasonable prices with the correct off-sets....usually for under a grand shipped to ya.....I know that a grand is not chump change, but I seriously doubt that a 9" tire is gonna be useful on the rear of a Z. I'd hate to see anything bad come of this as a result of not enough rear tire. Tom

Before I bought the GS A-molds I got a price on the aftermarket GS wheels,$500 shipped to my house,Just to clear something up,A-molds is not a generic term for 5 spoke ZR-1,GS wheels. You got A-molds them you got cheap aftermarket knockoffs but at $500 a set shipped to your door how can you beat that. The company I talk to in the past was OE Concepts.

I see, thanks for the advice. Traction issues aside, wouldn't a 1.5 inch wheel adapter or spacer do the trick in terms of making the wheel sit far out enough to look stock?

Re: Standard Vette Wheels On a ZR1?
You'd probably need some much longer wheel studs to handle a 1.5" spacer.
I took a picture of the rear of my car once with an 11" on one side and a 9.5" on the other. I can't seem to find it on the forum though.
