gauging interest: modified exhaust
After a 70 mile trip to a dragstrip this weekend, in 95+ degree heat with the windows up and A/C on, I think maybe I've decided to go Corsa for exhaust. I just am sick of the resonance at highway speeds with the windows up. Around town or with the windows down I love how the car sounds. 90% of the time I totally love it, 10% I hate it. I guess I'd rather 100% of the time just like it (I don't love the Corsa sound nor look).
Anyway, it's stock 2.75" pipes. The resonator is the LT4 one. And the mufflers are Dynomax Ultraflow SS 3" mufflers with stock square tips. The pipes have been modified for headers/cats, but I have the cut-off flanges so an exhaust person could set them up for use with stock manifolds again. With stock manifolds, the resonance is not as bad. It is worse than stock but better than a B&B. My car gained 25whp on a Superflow dyno with the exhaust modification. It would be local pickup as I think cutting it up would make it probably not worth the effort for anyone.

Hey, Sorry you are unhappy with your exhaust, but it was great to see you at the races.

Re: gauging interest: modified exhaust
It's only when driving on the highway. In the 65-75mph range the drone is severe, and with the windows up that's all you hear. The rest of the time I love it.

Re: gauging interest: modified exhaust
Bob,
Let me suggest you try the Magnaflow system. Its VERY good. I have it sitting behind Watson headers and no cats. Ccmano can vouch for it since he got a chance to drive it. At $650, its a steal, IMO. |

Re: gauging interest: modified exhaust
I saw some pictures a guy had on his LT4. The system seemed sort of cartoonishly oversized. The pipes and cans seemed to hang fairly low, and the tips were huge, 4" at least.
Do you have pictures of them on your car? How is the resonance?

Re: gauging interest: modified exhaust
Bob,
Several other Registry members have seen and heard it on my car. Resonance is virtually nil. Its a low mellow note that is consistent throughout the rpm range and doesn't get too loud even at WOT. The pics are from when I had a coolant leak now corrected. I'm pretty pleased. It doesn't tuck up like my old B+B, but I think it looks pretty muscular and the SS is bright. |
