Default Engine miss with power key on

I'm a newbie ZR 1 owner and hopefully someone can help with my question. My car is a 90 with 7600 miles. Original owner mainly never drove it. I just recently bought it and it appears to have a miss when the power key is on and the secondaries kick in. This happens from about 3,000 rpm's and up. When the power key is off it has smooth acceleration. When in a lower gear and accelerating half to full throttle it sounds like an old big block with that vibrato sounding exhaust note, however when accelerating in a higher gear it just mainly bucks but still gains speed. My mechanic thinks it is the injectors. I have run two cans of fuel injector cleaner through it but still appear to have problems. Could this be normal performance or is something definately wrong.

Thanks for any help.

Richard

you may want to get ahold of jeff @pnwzr1 he is just over the washington border. you may have a vacuum leak. the secondaries operate on vacuum. id invest in a helms manual for your car . they are very helpfull. but get on the internet and plug in jeffs place (pnwzr1 ) he is very knowledgeableon these.

Richard,

Welcome!

When I first got my ZR1 with about the same # of miles, it had a similar problem. I found that vibration while driving caused the power key to break electrical connection which causes the secondaries to shut down. This is something you may want to check out. Could also be a vacuum leak due to storage drying out the rubber connectors.

Good luck.

Most if not all the vacuum hoses were replaced on the car this past winter before the car was sold to Richard.

Your mechanic is probably right. With that mileage those secondary injectors probably rarely got used. This is a very common problem even at that mileage. Have all the injectors (primary and secondary) replaced otherwise you'll be doing this over and over again. Also make sure you do not replace them with original injectors from GM, their design is prone to this failure. RC's or Accels are recommended. For that matter Jeff is recommended....

FWIW, I'm doing mine this week for the exact same problem. I'm putting accels in.

Good luck,
Hans
