Corsa X-Pipe
Does anybody run an X-Pipe on their Corsa exhaust? I seem to only see B&B with them. Is there no upside? or is there possibly a downside? Is removing the existing resonator and replace with straight pipes produce any gains? Thanks in advance for any and all advise. Rick

Re: Corsa X-Pipe
Hi Ricky!
I replaced the Borla resonator on my Borla exhaust system with a B&B X pipe. I dynoed before and after and gained 25 rwhp. I like the sound better, not much louder, but yes, drones at about 1800 rpm. |

Re: Corsa X-Pipe
The beauty of the Corsa system is by design. The inherenty designed (Helmholtz) resonator section cancels certain resonant (sound) frequencies and mitigates others as well - without impeding the flow of the exhaust gasses. IOW, the Corsa IS essentially the same as removing the stock resonator and installing straight pipe in its place. So, there wouldn't be any practical (if any) increase in performance by swapping straight pipes for the Corsa resonator section.
As for the X pipe, specific HP improvements in performance depends on what else comprises the exhaust system, e.g., w/ or w/o headers, mufflers used, etc. But, specific quantities aside, the improvements experienced by many before and after users is "all good": up to 25 rwhp is commonly claimed. (YMMV). I have one (from Stainless Works). My fully ported (except for throttle body) motor with LT (SW) headers, 3" exhausts and somewhat restrictive mufflers makes 432 rwhp (before last improvements). How much is due to the X-pipe? I dunno. But, it's part of the package, and I "think" it helps...so it does!

Which mufflers you using Paul?

Re: Corsa X-Pipe
Currently, I'm unfortunately saddled with some Magnaflow dual outlet mufflers. They don't eliminate drone, but do mitigate it somewhat. At issue is the fact that the 3" inlet necks down to approx 2-1/4".
Following the example of others (e.g., Bob Banks for one) I may keep them, but install a pair of cutouts ahead of the mufflers with a switch in the console(?). (I'd be interested to see what my HP would be with cutouts AND after porting the TB to 63mm. Last time dyno'ed it was 432 @ the wheels. Anything around 440 to 445 rwhp w/ stock cams would put a big smile on my face!

B & B has the Helmholtz chambers in the mufflers. Wouldn't having them in either place address the resonance? Does Corsa have them in both the mufflers and the resonator? If one does the job why have more? 25 added HP from the x pipe is astounding! That rivals many an internal mod. I guess I will finally install my other B&B Fusion system with the x-pipe that have been sitting on the boxes since 2014. Marty |

Re: Corsa X-Pipe
I noticed a definite seat of the pants improvement going from the regular exhaust configuration and sizes, to all 3" with X pipe and mufflers (all SW). Sounds great too... Yes on drone... I dont mind it though.

My understanding is that resonators and mufflers address different frequency range. Resonators are low frequency and higher frequency handled by the mufflers. At least, above is my understanding. Introducing X pipe, I think, complicates the issue. Any acoustic engineer out there? Last edited by secondchance; 02-24-2020 at 06:45 PM. |

Re: Corsa X-Pipe
I dont mind adding more noise for more HP. Car currently has a Haibeck 500 hp pkg. Corsa exhaust no cats. She runs great as is but always looking for more.
