Default Main battery ground mounting point

Hello guys, I finally got a weekend off and have begun work on my 1990Z.
1. Where does the ground wire from the battery connect to the engine?
2.I have no warning lights, no lcd display, no blower fan, nothing happens when I try to start the car except a very slight click. The tach comes up to zero and analog guages are working, I have cleaned the power junction beside the battery and the ground wire behind driver side kick panel. Windows, seats, radio, interior lights and all external lights work. Is there one wire that feeds the part of my dash that is not working? All my fuses are cleaned and good, all fuses have power except "INST" fuse have power.
Sorry for the long post, just excited to be working on her, thanks.

Item 2. do the fuses for Guages, Turn/BU and Cruise have power? They and the cluster fuse all get power from the same line to the ignition switch.

Can we assume you have an FSM, or at least copies of the electrical schematics?

Good morning Ccmano,
With the switch on the run position all fuses check good except FP1, the INST fuse only works when headlight switch is on and it is working. I read that somewhere last night.
I have no dash lights of any kind, no chimes at all, no Lcd display, no glove box light.
The interior lights in rear view mirror and doors are working. Radio, information center and climate control all working although no blower motor, the horns do not work either. If I try to start it nothing happens except for a slight click coming from under driver side dash. Thanks for your time, I'm learning a lot.

Yes Paul I have both manuals, I looked last night for trouble shooting a no start but have not found my particular problem yet. Most of what I've read so far assumes the engine is cranking and nothing happens at all, kinda like I don't even have a battery in it
I have more issues this morning, I pulled the fuel sending unit out and it's completely destroyed, so going to need a fuel tank and fuel sending unit. I reckon they are hard to find being discontinued and all. I knew when I bought her it was going to be a challenge but I'm going to get there, thanks

Looks like this one is going to take some digging through the electrical manual schematics one issue at a time. You may find that the FSM charts won’t help you much because of multiple issues going on. Have you had the starter out or at least checked with direct 12v that it even works?

The chart you want is Chart 1 page 8A-30-4 of the 90’ Electrical Service Manual. However, that’s just a starting point. Take your time, you’ll get it.
Good luck,
H

Ha Ha Hans--You may not find the FSM charts too helpful because sometimes they are flat wrong. I remember that one of our members from Barcelona Spain once shipped an engine to Marc in Chicago because using the FSM he couldn't get it to run right. Marc struggled with it for a while then realized that some wire color coding in the FSM was wrong. Once he figured out the right colors of the wires and what they did he fixed it and it ran fine and he shipped it back. But the shipping costs must have been pretty exciting. --Bob
