Disable power antenna?
Hello every one.
I come today with a simple question. Can i make my power antenna not extend up every time i turn on my radio/CD deck? My cars radio system is bone stock and never touched. The car is a 95 ZR-1 Can i just unplug the power antenna mast or something? I performed this unplugging on my 1993 subaru legacy turbo because it was a 2 wire system. One was power up and down, and the other was the actual antenna for radio signal. Thoughts? Tom |

Re: Disable power antenna?
So you want to completely disable the power antenna? Assuming so, yes, you could "unplug" the power antenna.
Out of curiosity, why would you want to do this? Sent from my QTAIR7 using ZR-1 Net Registry mobile app |

Re: Disable power antenna?
I had my radio guy install a switch to interupt power to it. I asked him specifically if the antenna would go up when I was listening to anything other than FM. He said no, he was wrong. Drives e crazy to see it up in the side mirror, and I never listen to FM.

Re: Disable power antenna?
I’m sure there are other cheaper ways, but I did this method to my 95.

Re: Disable power antenna?
I installed a toggle switch adjacent to the console on the driverside and spliced into antenna signal wire.
Around town, even retracted, FM radio will still pick up signal. |

Re: Disable power antenna?
For me, I live overseas and rarely use the radio. I don’t like the look of the car with the antenna design and added wear and tear going up and down for no reason. With the switch installed, I can use it only when desired. Sent from my iPhone using ZR-1 Net Registry
