If you drive a little further to the Chicago area you will find Mark Haibeck the ZR-1 Specialist. It doesn't get any better than Haibeck. It is doubtful that you will find anyone in the Michigan area, there are just not enough of these cars to "practice" on.
What is it you need to do?
There is plenty of help here if you are capable of tackling the job yourself.

John,

You could try contacting Robert DeMarco. He is in Frankenmuth and is a knowledgeable member. Chicagoland would be a backup.

Thanks guys.......a customer of mine owed me $ and paid with 1991 ZR1. Car sat for 2 years...got her going but I think injectors are all gunked up....I'm not very mechanical.......I'm a great helper....The tool I use the most is my check book.

Congrats on joining the club! If what you wrote above I’d true, save yourself a lot of headaches and just take the car and your checkbook to Marc Haibeck in Chicago. As was said, it doesn’t get any better than Marc.

John (Bongo577):

I have worked with Marc Haibeck on three separate ZR-1's and will testify that he is well worth the trip to Addison for work, repair or enhancements. I am in the Okemos (East Lansing) area and I have gladly driven my cars to him for diagnosis and problem solving.

I have also spoken to Ken Lingenfelter about working on the cars, since he has Graham Behan working with him. Ken advised Graham may not be the one working on the car, but he is still a great resource. Lingenfelter's shop is about a 45 minute ride from my place. Luckily all is well with my ride, but it's also a '91 with 120,000 miles so you never know.

I hope to meet up with you some day. BTW do you have pictures of your car to post?

Another nod for Haibeck. I drove from Minneapolis to him. I thought I was crazy for doing it, but as I was pulling in, a fella from North Carolina was pulling out with his 91. My car was running hot and the oil temperature would read dangerously high, my clutch was bad and there were a few other little things I didn't even realize. He had it done in a few days and it's totally problem free.

You wouldn't suspect anything of it, given it's location, but when you walk in and see 6 zr1s in various states of repair from various states of the union....you realize you're in good hands.

What everyone mentions about him is the knowledge and quality of work. No one seems to mention how reasonable he is for pricing. In the Midwest, no one is better.

The guy I purchased my ZR-1 from shipped it all the way from Southern California to Haibeck to have him work on it. Cost him about $1,000 each way for shipping. So people from all over the US ship to Mark for his quality work.
