Default There is Love for the Z

Went up to Lake Mills Wi for their cars and coffee....high end show, 2 new BMW M4 GTS, 3-4 Lambos, McLaren, vintage Ferraris, too many 911s to even count, and on and on, maybe 200 cars.....and there was one 90 ZR-1, my 149,800 polished beater with cams, nitrous ......pretty worn out interior

Had people stopping in there tracks when they saw the motor....a lot of guys in their late 20s/early 30s including one younger guy that said he never thought he would see one in person.

Its time will come, be patient

That's a great show, been there, wish our Car & Coffee was a tenth that good. Nothing but Ricers and Boy racers here.

Mike Cichon and I were the ONLY ZR-1s to show up for the "Supercar" gathering at the Bolingbrook Promenade last Saturday; skewed toward the high-end cars and exotics or special or limited editions. And, he and I were at the last Morris Cruise Night - a similar venue, 'cept not quite as many high-end (exotics). Both are unique gatherings in their own right!

Anyways.... Of all the cars at the shows (and there were some beauties!), the Zs drew more people than usual.

With sooooo much eye candy to see, people's eyes kinda glaze over after a wile and they just stroll past with hardly more than a glance. But, the two Zs would draw people in to look and point and chat and take pictures where other cars went begging - or so it seemed to me. (Maybe people were attracted to the fact the LT5s were NOT hidden under acres of plastic covers: proud of their appearance. That would be in contrast to the hideous appearance of some newer motors' poor esthetic appeal?

The majority of ZR-1 owners are WAXERS, much to my surprise. And one of them at the Bolingbrook show (one of our own, here in FBI land - who will remain nameless) texted me to say my car was "dusty". Well, it might have been, but what's important to me is if anyone wants to "tango", they're gonna have to bring their A game to beat these "antiques"!

Don't sell yourself short, Paul.

It was my 24-year-old son-in-law who in the Spring of 2015 asked me if I'd like to test drive a '90 ZR-1 at a local dealership. Then he began to tell me about the ZR-1, excitedly. Well, I knew about them, but responded, "I'll go with you, but I AM NOT IN THE MARKET FOR ONE! I'm not even gonna drive it."

Well, sure enough after he drove it, he said, "You've gotta drive this thing!" I refused... but somehow, minutes later, found myself behind the wheel with the salesman in the passenger seat.

... and within a month had a '94 Z in the garage. Dern enthusiastic 24-year-olds!

Hans, don't they have some events in Tahoe?
Humm, maybe we could organize a ZR-1 West event
in Tahoe?

I haven't checked Tahoe, it's possible. Lots of money up there. You would think they would bring their toys out to play from time to time.

A West ZR-1 event is a great idea, maybe in conjunction with Hot August Nights next year or the Air Races in September. Let's noodle that one.

So far I have found only 2 other Z's in town. I have to cultivate those guys a bit.
