No start situatuon
Anyone have experience with this -
Car won't start, battery is strong, put it in neutral and roll it a foot or two and it starts right up? As if there are no problems? Anyone know what the issue is or what causes this? Sent from my iPhone using ZR-1 Net Registry |

Re: No start situatuon
Can you provide more information? What year is the car? Do you have any after-market equipment related to anti-theft or remote start? Does the starter motor operate when the key is turned? Does this happen all the time or just some times? Have you done any recent maintenance on the car? Are you using the same ignition key that use to start the car?

Re: No start situatuon
1991 bone stock (except exhaust), recently swapped the injectors, happens every so often (all 3xs at my inlaws so it feels way worse than it was), the starter does not move at all, same chipped ignition

Re: No start situatuon
Try this diagnosis when the starter does not turn with the ignition key in Start:
Look at the Battery Voltage meter on the instrument panel. As you turn the ignition key see if the battery voltage meter needle moves to a lower voltage. If the needle does not move it means that the starting circuit is not sending voltage to the starter motor solenoid. Trouble shoot the starter circuit; clutch switch, VATS, ignition key, etc. If the meter does move to a lower voltage and the starter does not turn than the starter solenoid (built into the starter) needs to be rebuilt or the starter replaced. Re: No start situatuon
Ive had the same thing on my 91. Parked outside my workshop for a while, came back and tried to start the engine - nothing, no starter motor sound at all. I pushed it into the workshop, grabbed out my set of GM service manuals.
Clutch switch has already been disabled, so I followed the start wire along under the dashboard to ....... an engine immobiliser unit someone had installed in conjunction with an alarm system. Seems the relay contacts were shagged. So I promptly removed the relay and resoldered the offending wire connections and havent had a problem since. |

Re: No start situatuon
So I was getting slight movement on the battery gauge, I left and came back the next day. The car started right up. Could a starter fail intermittently?

Yes, it is a common failure mode to operate intermittently. Jim

Re: No start situatuon
Like Jim says.......it is very common to have this most common Starter Issue and most common it is intermittent.
See Inspection, Testing and Reconditioning the Valley, Starter, and Coils The Starter Solenoid is shown in the left photo with slight burnt contacts in right photo. The Solenoid contacts in left photo were wire brushed clean in right photo.
