Crank plugs
Today I started with the rebuild of my 368.
Recieved last week the block, crank and heads back from the machineshop. I am not sure if there needs to be a freeze plug in the front, behind the damper bolt? Or is the damper bolt keeping the oil pressure.... I was looking already in many topics here with the search option but could not find a clear anwer. The crank is polished, they removed the treaded plugs and the freeze plugs in the walls where not removed. Installed new treaded plugs myself after checking for any more dirt. Machineshop cleaned crank ultrasoon. Last edited by Jitse; 02-04-2016 at 04:13 PM. Reason: Add extra info |

Re: Crank plugs
Thats something what can be done as extra security , a tig weld on those expansion plugs.
This crank is not regrind and not heated up like the regrind (380) from yours and Secondchance.... Or maybe they installed a mismatching set of freeze plugs in them that time. |

Re: Crank plugs
That's my recommendation REGARDLESS of the build. However I suspect the rework on the crank was the full reason the OEM method was not satisfactory. Too many $$$ these days in the rebuild to not do it IMHO.

Re: Crank plugs
The damper retainer bolt is installed in the crank shaft with loctite which seals the threads from leaking oil. I've done a few and so far none have leaked. Be sure to clean the bolt and thread bore and aply loctite liberally on the first half of the bolt threads.

Today I installed the eagle rods on the Diamond pistons and started with file fit the rings, time consuming job. But I enjoy it. |
