Default FX3 gear question, is my car a one off?

I have a 1991 ZR-1 with the FX3 suspension. Recently one of my gear broke and I ordered a replacement from Captain CNC(Great to deal with BTW). It appears my gears are drilled in a different spot than the replacement from Captain CNC. Has anyone else had this happen? I'm wondering if my car has some one off shocks on it or something.

Here is the picture for comparison. New gear in hand.

It's difficult to tell but I believe the one on the car looks like it's pinned as a "long cam" which would be '92+. The one in your hand looks to be correct for the "short cam" I would expect on a '91. You don't show the orientation of the pin hole to actually determine this.

Corvette Central likely has both gears also and you might be able to compare images. Is the cam length a match on what you bought as to that on the car? I'd maybe ask "THE CAPTAIN".

Here's a link to both at CC:

http://www.parts123.com/corvettecent...year=&part=FX3 gear&searchtype=50

The link won't work to a side by side of both but if you just search FX3 gear in the left column it should bring up both or search part #'s 574102 and 574170.

What is the part # stamped in the tube of your shock near the T-bar at the control arm. Maybe also the part #'s on your actuators?

The gear stop is same on both. The view is skewed because the new gear is closer to the camera. I measured the stops on the gears with a caliper and they are almost exactly the same. My issue is the placement of the hole in which the gear is drilled. Mine is on the side of the stop where the new gear is drilled perpendicular to the stop.

I have been talking to Captain, and he is stumped right now. He hasn't seen this before. He thinks that a PO might have done something to the car.

Maybe someone mistakenly put the late SRC shocks on an early car?

But the late gear has a bigger stop correct? The early cars had a stop that was 2 teeth long.

Before the busted gear my system worked properly. If it was a late shock the range for the gear to turn wouldn't be enough for the early computer. Am I off base here?

Not sure if this helps but here is a pic of the rear from my 91. The shock on the left is the original the one on the right a new replacement. They are identical just pined in a different location.

So we could maybe assume that the shocks on the OP's car are likely "service shocks" and are different product? I would think that the number stamped into the shock tube might be an identifier.

Steve - compare the stamping information on your original and service shock and maybe post that information. That's one of the reasons I suggested in my first post to get that information to see if there was any information that could be interpreted from the information there.

I'd think the pin orientation shouldn't matter, since the startup process tells the system where the stops are.

That's just a guess on my part. No real knowledge here.

I just want to put some more info in this thread. My shocks do not say Delco on them anywhere. I assume this means they have been replaced with Bilsteins replacements. The replacement shocks must have gears drilled in a different spot than the OEM Delco/Bilsteins shocks.

Anyone else have replacement shocks they could post pictures of the gears? I would like to document this for Captain Z CNC. He has never seen anything like this before.

The numbers from the bottom of the shock tube would confirm this. I would think it possible to maybe contact Bilstein if you have the numbers from the shock tube to see potential options. I'm sure "The Captain" has contacts and could work with the information on your shock tubes. Snapshots might confirm the issue but having the information from the shock tubes I'd think required to do the appropriate research.

Steve's supplied the information from the rears but I'd think it advisable to confirm the front information, gather it into one document and then ask the questions.
