Re: June 6th
Watching "Storming Juno" as I type. It's a movie about the Canadians who fought courageously for a "beach-head" at landing site "Juno", they took 961 casualties(340 dead, 574 wounded, 47 captured). Total Allied casualties were over 10,000 with 4,414 deaths confirmed during Operation Overlord (the actual Normandy landings were codenamed Operation Neptune) By July there were approx. 120,000 Allied casualties.
A big salute goes out to those who sacrificed themselves both physically and mentally, while looking out for the guys to their left, to their right, for their country, and for the world. Thank you for your service. It would be a very different world today without these courageous service people and their families back on the homefront, fighting their battles the best way they knew how. So long as you were 1 of the eventual 3,000,000 troops under the command of that 5 star General (Eisenhower-Supreme Allied Commander of Forces in Europe), you were fighting on the right side. My Infantry Regiment (Royal Canadian Regiment) VRI=Victoria Regina Imperatrix, which in Latin means, for Victoria, Queen and Empress My front yard Pro Patria (For Country) my Regimental Motto.
