Fixing that pesky header stud oil leak?
Ive got the car apart for some detail cleaning and figured Id fix the header stud oil leak while Ive got it apart,any tips and which stud is the one that leaks,is it both sides of the block or only one side?Thanks

Hi Jeff,
There is no pattern as to which stud leaks. Just observe if there is oil on the stud. If one is leaking and the other is not, chances are that it was sealed correctly at the factory and will never leak. To make the stud easy to remove we put a dot of weld on the thread closest to the nut. Then the stud can be easily extracted with the nut. Make sure the hole is clean. We get great results using Loctite 565 pipe thread sealer. This is contrary to the service manual which specifies Loctite 620 retaining compound. It seems to be a lot like a pipe thread to me. It's okay to use bad language when doing this job. |
