Got me some NAPA Gold 1324 filters and was looking at oil.
Was looking at the Mobil 1 chart for zinc level and 0W-40 look like the winner in Zinc content. It's also only35$ per 5 qts, anybody out there think this is a bad decision? I'm in Houston TX... ![]() ![]() |

I'm not so sure about "0". I think the factory spec was 5-30. "High mileage" versions of Mobil 1 have high Zn and phosphate levels.

I personally would never run a zero-forty oil in an Lt5/while you may feel it has more zinc,I do not believe it is the right weight for these older engines// try a 10/30 or 10/40 oil amzoil//or go with the amsoil Zrod in 10/30 or even 20/50 in hot weather/high performance applications///they are high zinc //give Corey a call at Hendersen performance

Run the High Mileage Mobil 1. I use 10w-30 High Mileage. So far so good.

I use Castrol GTX Diesel 15W-40. Works great. Been using it with stock and re-ground cams for 3 years now.

I mix 3 qts of the 10w-30 Z-Rod high additive oil with a 5qt jug of modern 10w-30 Mobil1. pretty much hits the ppm blend that was being sold in the 90's and saves a little since the cost of running pure z-rod amsoil is prohibitive. (and probably unnecessary to run that much additive).

I've run mobile 1 high mileage 10w-30. No problems that I can tell. Marc says the high mileage 10w-30 has ample amounts of zinc. Back to running amsoil now.
