Default Mercury Racing's QC4v

Mercury Marine is marketing an engine that looks to me like a big block LT5. They have it rated at 1650 hp in the twin turbo configuration. Of course it can be run as a normally aspirated 540 ci engine. At the SEMA and PRI motorsports shows they had it on display as an engine looking for a car.

They refer to the LT5 as their inspiration for the QC4v. Indeed the cam drives look like the LT5, including the double row chains. The cylinder heads and the plenum are similar to the 475 hp ’95 LT5 that was cancelled by GM. The injector housings are integrated into the cylinder heads like the ’95 475 hp LT5.

For more information see: www.mercuryracing.com/blog/got-wheels/

Click on their SEMA brochure for more details.

It’s nice to see that they have given the LT5 the recognition that it deserves.

Now, what car can this huge engine can be fitted to?

I was watching a show (Corvette Nation) on tv the other day and they were touring the NCM. They showed a twin-turbo LT5 factory engine that is displayed there.

Ya know... Putting one in a ZR-1 for a display at the BG gathering in the spring would be a show stopper! Maybe a "delegation" of ZR-1 enthusiasts should make a little trip to Wisconsin and kick around a few ideas???

Imagine the "shot in the arm" the ZR-1 recognition would get, to say noting of the performance potential that would befall our beloved Zs to have MM do a sample ZR-1.

Just a thought. (When do we go visit???)

Marc,

Paul and I discussed contacting MM to see if there would be an interest in doing an event in Wisconsin. Sort of a heritage thing. MM came out with this for SEMA in November and I thought I posted something about it here then.

Here's the thread Jerry posted about it.

I'll volunteer my car for the engine swap. Who is going to pony up the dough for the motor?

don't think it will fit all that many platforms. pretty big and heavy

I can build alot more than 1600 hp for 70k, but it wouldn't be as sexy as this!!

anyone know how much the NA and TT versions weigh??

beautiful engineering!

and competative with the high dollar engines folks like sonnys and nelson racing builds

those boat people have money!!
