Default GM Water Pump

Well as my luck would have it, I sent a new NOS water pump to Marc to be installed as part of the work he is doing. he called today and told me as he left the shop for the first test drive he only made it about 100 yards and the pulley came off the shaft.
This is the second new pump I have had do this what are the odds? has anyone else had this happen? These were both new NOS pumps.

I'd worry about NOS anything that is 20 years old. Any reason why you went that route instead of having Marc rebuild yours? I bought a rebuilt pump from him (sent my old one as a core) and knock on wood, it's been perfect for almost 2000 miles so far.

I had bought it about 7 years ago as a spare. The 1st one I had do this was on a 90 that I had replaced due to bad seal back in 04 GM replaced it free. As this one had been on my shelf all this time no luck in them replacing it Marc will rebuild it. Wish my luck was that good at the lottery!!

Sorry to hear about your bad luck. It does confirm though that I am probably making the right choice in having him rebuild mine (it is leaking).

Really hated seeing this thread Steve!

I just put my spare pump in the mail to Marc yesterday and now have second thoughts!

Hope you get her home soon.

Just have Marc check it out good before he installs it.

I installed a new water pump and the impeller (inside the pump) spun on the shaft within an hour of running. Now that is tricky because the only way you know is the temp gauge. IT HAPPENS

When mine started to leak and I had to replace it I just went with a remanufactured one from Oreilly's and it was good to go.
