Rear crankshaft oil plug / seal
Hi All,
In the process of examing my clutch, my mechanic has managed to lodge the rear crankshaft plug *into* the crankshaft (the LT5 having a hollow crankshaft) by about an inch... I see on the ZR1 net that: Special Note: Some of you may have had the occasion to replace a pilot bushing on engines other than the LT5 by filling the hole with grease and then using a punch to force the bearing out by the hydraulic method. This will cause major problems if done on the LT5 as it is a hollow crankshaft with a plug seated at the end. Carefully use the appropriate tools for removal and installation of the LT5 pilot bushing.... ok, one to know for next time. We will drill this stuck one out. I'm looking to get a replacement part from Kurt White (seems to be GM part # 10067639), so although he's off to Carlisle, I hope that will be no problem. Does anybody have any specific information on how to re-fit it, or will it just tap in? I guess it's tapered, but 80psi of hot oil could be quite a force... Any help appreciated. Steve 1991 ZR1 |
