4 cam , but always called DOHC ( dual cam ) ... please explain ---
This is definitely a newb question, but I am curious why the engine says "4 cam" , but I always see people refer to this engine as DOHC ( dual overhead cam ). Dual = 2 ... see my confusion? HAHAH
I am sure there is an easy answer, thanks for the time and help ... I will be researching a lot when the holidays pass , right now work is SLAMMED!!! --- |

Is that typical of the DOHC engines to have 2 per head, not just 2 per engine?
Thanks --- |

That's what DOHC means - Dual Over-head Cam - 2 cams "over" the head. If it were an inline engine it could still be DOHC and only have 2 cams, on a V - 2 heads, 2 cams per head i.e. 4
If an engine only had one came per head it would be a SOHC - Single overhead cam engine. This was the set up on the Jaguar V12 for example which the LT5 designers "borrowed" quite a bit from. Dave

If memory serves when I was in the Cop business it was radio code for Drunk or under the influence but not violent. Perhaps he is making a play on words that he likes the sauce a bit?

It's all over my head Conventions are like that. They may be obtuse but many are. I'd like to meet and talk to the guy that decided Feb gets 28 or 29 days but other months have 31. You'd think they'd be split differently. Ah, conventions. I would have made it DOCC - double over cylinder cam or QTCC - quad total cam count or THFC - two heads four cams or or or
