When I want to quote just a portion of a post, I use the "Quote" button and then edit the text that is between the ["QUOTE=..."] and ["/QUOTE"] tags. It is a little cumbersome, but it works. Just be careful to not change or delete either of the [ ]'ed tags. Note that the quotation marks don't exist in the real tags. I had to add them to prevent them acting as a Quote.
As a side note, since you are editing what someone else posted, I consider it polite to indicate that you are only quoting a portion by using "..." or some other indication of changes that you made. It would be improper to edit a quote in a way that changes the meaning of the original poster's words. Jim |
