SO I think I have a good charge in the system finally. Compressor is working. Parallel flow condenser replaces the tube and fin
Yesterday with the Temp in the mid 80s it was blowing 50 and a bit less the 50 out the vents. So Ia m getting at least a 30 deg variant from the Ambient which I understand is good. my next task is to determine how to get more Volume out of the system. I think I have a couple areas in the dash that need attention ( I am thinking the foam in a couple spots is leaking, but I am also trying to determine if I need a different blower motor or a different squirrel cage for the current motor. I have talked of a suburban blower in the past, but not tried it yet, although if it spins at the same speed as the Vette one the only difference there could be is the squirrel cage.. still trying to figure that one out

I got the R-12 for about ~30-40 per can
R134a is not the $6 per can, last I saw it was closer to 20. plus the r12 runs lower head pressure too A/c seems to be working fine, just need to figure out the air volume issue

Advanced Auto has R134A for 130.00 a drum. I think the sale is over at the end of the June. For everyone with a 90-92 that still has R12. If you blend R134A and HFC-12 you get the same temperature glide and temperature curve of R12. The draw back is you will however have to upgrade all of the seals and oil. |

I did have an air flow problem about 10 yrs ago. Turned out to be the contacts to the control unit as I remember. Also I bought 12 cans of 134 at a store called Bi-Mart here in the NW for $5/can. I've never seen $20 a can.

I never buy stuff like this at a strictly automotive store. BIG MARK UPS. Pep Boys has it at $18 with $10 off if you buy 6 cans. Good till the 30th. Must use this coupon. http://www.pepboys.com/sale_specials...00_or_more_cp/

Just had my AC recharged today @ my local Chevy dealer
I normally scorn them but they had R12 in stock... No leaks that they could find. $34.25 a 12oz can, 2 cans. I remember paying 79 cents a can @ Pep Boys years ago! The compressor probably has a slow leak somewhere, but after all, it's 22 years old... (no way is the dealer gonna replace that, for the obvious reasons...) |
