Default New Balance of Performance Figures from IMSA

NEW BALANCE OF PERFORMANCE FIGURES FROM IMSA

The International Motor Sports Association (IMSA), the sanctioning body of the American Le Mans Series, has issued adjusted Balance of Performance figures. The new data goes into effect immediately and will be in use for the Lone Star Grand Prix, Round 2 of the 2006 American Le Mans Series.

LMP1
The Lola B06/10-AERs, two of which are fielded by Dyson Racing, will have their minimum weight reduced to 900 kilograms, 25 less than the minimum at the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring.

In addition the Lola EX257-AER, like those of Highcroft Racing and Autocon Motorsports, will be allowed to compete with a restrictor that is 1.2 millimeters larger than at Sebring. The cars also will run with a higher maximum absolute boost pressure of 2,800 millibars, which IMSA says is the best way to enhance performance without the risk of engine damage by running it too hard.

LMP2
All cars with 2.0-liter turbocharged engines, like the AER-powered Lola B05/40, Lola B2K/40 and Courage C65, will continue to have a maximum restrictor size of 45 millimeters. There is a change, however, in the maximum absolute boost pressure by 200 millibars.

The three-rotor Mazda engine, in B-K Motorsports' No. 8 Courage C65, will see its maximum restrictor size increase according to a mathematical equation used to compare rotary performance to the performance of normally aspirated engines.

GT1
The Aston Martin DBR9, two of which are entered for the Houston and Mid-Ohio rounds, has a new minimum weight of 1,100 kilograms (25 less than at Sebring). The Saleen S7R, like those of Konrad Motorsports, has the same minimum weight as well. Both have been given larger air restrictors with the Saleen seeing the greatest change.

GT2
The Porsche 911 GT3 RSRs that compete in the Series will be allowed to race with slightly bigger restrictors. That covers Porsches with the 3.8-liter and 3.6-liter engines.
