Anyone fitted custom fuel rails before?
Hi Guys,
I am doing some mods to the LT5 - some for performance, some for appearance. I have an aeromotive fuel pressure reg to replace the original one. Since I aslo wanted to change the fuel line connection to AN style and now need some AN fitting to suit the new fuel pressure reg, sort of got me thinking, why bother with stock fuel rails, time to go custom. There are plenty of blank fuel rails out there to use, I am keen to get some ideas on what others have done and what they have used. In particular I am interrested in how to make the after market rails suit the top of the LT5 injectors - it is not simply a case of drilling the hole in the right spot - it needs a 'boss' made up to suit the little clip. Anyone know where I could get these from? Matt |

OK, did a bit of research.
I found these guys - even in oz so handy for me, they have some awsome stuff and reasondable price. Those smooth rails will polish up nicely. http://www.efihardware.com/products/...rts-and-Mounts http://www.efihardware.com/products/...retaining-clip Anyone noticed the baffling in the stock fuel rails? In my professional opinion, I reckon this is because the feed and return to reg are at the same end of the fuel rail and they want the fuel to circulate. That could be very tough getting a return fitting out of the front end of each fail - very hard from the sides as well - they had some interresting packaging challenges with this engine thats for sure. G'day mate! Since stock fuel pressure regulators are virtually unavailable, the work you are doing may very well be useful to many others down the road.
Do you see any way to modify the stock rails to simplify the fabrication?

Re: Anyone fitted custom fuel rails before?
really the stock rails can be moved anywhere as long as you have the ajoining tubes between the rails modified....what exactly are you trying to accomplish with the move?

Re: Anyone fitted custom fuel rails before?
Mainly I want to fit one of these nice shiny things with adjustable fuel pressure.
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/AEI-13159/ And I want to change how the fuel feed and return lines connect to the fuel rails so it is done under the plenum or down behind. Then polish the lot. Definately can mod the original ones pretty easily, I just prefer not to hack into stock LT5 parts if I can avoid it. Looking at the cost of second hand Lt5 fuel rails if I want a spare set to play with, they are similar price to these aftermarket ones. |
