Default just bought a setof .....

nitto 555 extreme performance street tires for my 92 . wear rating is 300,nice and total price including mounting balancing and ca. sales tax was 901.63 for all 4 tires . its nice to see another company carrying a decent street tire for our cars . have put 1000 miles on them and they seem better even than the goodyear dg3s that i had before and at 219 per tire for the rears sure beats the heck out of the 372 per tire for the Goodyear.

The Nittos will probably be my choice for replacing the Sumitomo/Yokohama combo I'm running now. Keep us posted as they wear.

Hey Brad(?), thanks for the feed back. Yea the G/Yrs are pricey. You get much rain out by you? Yea, I know "you use your Z in the rain!" Okay so shoot me! Yes, it always seems to rain at some point on my way to the Gathering! Every time I think of how much $$ the D3's cost I remember the rain that WV & KY saves just for my drive thru there and I say to myself "Expensive as chit, but priceless in the wet!"

I'm looking for alternatives though! Would respect your opinion if you get caught in a down pour!

Wow! $370 bones. I bought mine in Feb for $290 ea. Sounds like those GSD3's will be my last set. I did get a pair of 315 BFG KDW's already stacked up anyhow from another guy in socal. I guess I'll be running those in a few thousand miles. It's not like I drive my car in the rain anyhow.

I did on my old DD 95 LT1 car, and those GY were the best in the rain. I guess GY is keeping the price high on the supply and demand aspect rather than increasing production. Making more profit with less sold is safer than investing a few hundred thousand in more tire molding equipment I guess.

hoo me drive in the rain.he he guilty as charged i fact i did last week in Sacramento and they were about 95% of how the goodyears were and i had to go through some bad stuff .hard to beat the goodyear channels as wide as they are but i wouldn't hesitate to drive them in the rain at all . i looked at all the offerings out there and thought these to be the best ones that are for sale . also on the open road these are very quiet even on grooved roads .only detracting thing is they dont look as nasty from the back .

Thank you Brad for posting up the results of the wet work. Any twisties involved in that jaunt? Yea, I know ... Yes I want everything!

It's just that the D3's just don't seem to give up even on the corners in the wet....as long as you keep it to a sane speed that is.

I'm going to give a look over at their site and see what's up. I hate to say this but I really liked the look of the NT05's, but they are not for wet work.

Thanks again for sharing your thoughts!

Brad,

I just bought a set of these a few months ago too and feel the same way......LOVE 'EM!! Great tires and great price; they do well on dry and wet.

i am not the most able corner carver but i personally don't feel these give up much if anything to the dg3s . bill boudreau has a set of the nto5s and loves them also .he says they are an amazing tire in the corners and thinks he will get about 20 k out of them . no rain report , but when you live in az one doesn't have to worry about them too much in the rain .

It seems like Nitto has more selections than before, or I just wasn't paying attention. NT05 street compound, and NT05R drag radial with race rubber compound. NT 555 street compound, and NT 555R race compound for drag, and RII for road race. I'm on my 3rd set of NT01 and have no complaints with traction or quality for the price. Scratch the RII, no 315's.

I try to buy american, but there doesn't seem to much choice with tires. Especially since I avoid Goodyear, even on daily drivers since they can't seem to keep tires in stock.

I just put down a deposit on a set of the Nitto 555 at my local Discount Tire. $883 out the door.
