Default Silly idea?

I was just wondering how Jet-Coating will look and work on the plenum, IH and cam covers.
Can Jet coating applied to cast aluminum? Any thoughts?

I've seen it on a TPI plenum and runners. I think the rough-cast surface has to be polished smooth first, though?

Isn't the point of Jet Hot to RETAIN heat on headers? Why would you want to do that on an intake system?

This is one place I found while looking for header coatings. They seem to have a lot of different coatings to do various functions.

Tom

They have a great product. When I start the exhaust redo on the Z I am going to send the watsons to them and have them coated. For the look I used a high temp powder coat on one of the old motors in the 89 and it looked good. They have one called "Almost Chrome" that looks almost like Jet coating except without the rough finish.

My thought is that ability to retain heat comes from coating's ability to insulate. When applied to intake it will reduce haet transfer between inside to outside of plenum. I am not sure which would be hotter. Nonetheless, if anything, it may reduce heat transfer betwen the plenum to incoming air, perhaps.
but you are right it warrants further thought.
I was primarilly thinking in terms of finish.

Actually zirconium oxide paint is supposed to be extremely effective in controlling intake manifold heat....expensive stuff

I would ask a question. I think that the intake tract gets more heat thru conduction? If that is the case then interrupting the conduction pathway would be needed besides any coatings to stop absorption via radiated heat source, no?
