DIS box is that thing bolted under the plenum that is the control box for our ignition system.

I'm not sure about the hoarding. The GM ignition engineer that Brett brought on board could proly give us insight on it's mortality as I think that was his department at GM. I think he was either the design engineer or part of the engineering team that came up with the system. His handle is LT5 Ignition.

You are having trouble with your DIS box Carter? I know this much. The LT5 DIS boxes have early and late styles. Your car proly has the later style box....sorry I do not know what the differences are....I'm not that electronically literate!

I'm a bit electronically challenged to say the least. I am NOT having any issues but it seems to be getting some attention from what I have seen so thought maybe it was an item I needed to have on hand, "just in case".
Thanks for the quick response and hope all is going well for you.

Carter, I hope is all good at your ranch! Thanks, things are okay in my neck of the woods.

I remember one thing in that thread. He said that the system is very tough because they knew that it would be in a hostile place all it's life. I got the impression that they spared nothing to get it right. The thought train of most of the thread is "how can we adapt the LSx system" for the guys that really understand the theory & all and that they want more spark energy and not be hostage to a system we can't get parts to repair.

Now LT5/Ing said he was going to look into a few things. I'm kind of thinking we all will have an answer to either what to replace it with, or better yet who to see for repairs or maybe both. One thing he did say. Our system will not leave us broken down, as it is really two systems and has a limp home side to it.

Look maybe I read into it too much? The guy looks to me to be really still into the LT5, and darn glad that Brett brought him to our hang out. I think we will be okay with him on our side. JMHO

No ranch here but maybe some day. I'll keep an ear open and see where this goes, thanks

Carter,

You know me and being paranoid about having hard to find parts. I recently bought a NOS one and it cost me $600. I had this fear that if all else worked fine on the Z and this one part went (even though rare, if never) I have a spare. Who knows if my NOS part is a good part just because it is new and I did not test it. Good question and I would like to get input from Marc H about this one too and I doubt he ever had one go, but I do plan to keep my Z for another 30 years or until I can't shift or push in the clutch.
