Default Do you Know What's in Your Tub?

I'm guessing most people spend more time thinking about their next Mod than they do the spare. After owning my car almost a year and driving it 4,000 miles - I though it might be a good idea to check the tire tub.

It felt like opening a time capsule, I think I may have just been the last guy in there in 20 years. Fortunately - everything was there - and tire actually had air.

It cleaned up pretty well. I'm gonna take the chance that if I ever needed it, the 20 year old spare would get me home.

I did the same thing when my 90 was 10 years old. Cleaned everything up and put the tire bag under the tray, in the compartment , behind the passenger seat. It fits nicely in their, stays a lot cleaner, and is still available if needed.

Yea, I did that too the when I took delivery of my 90 back in 04....and the tire was down to like 30 psi! So glad I checked it then, and now I check it every March just to make sure.

They do still work. I got a bad flat this summer & drove from a bit north of Atlantic City back to NYC on that doughnut and it seems none the worse for wear. I should say that a normal 2 hr trip took like 5 hrs because I got off the highway and took surface streets. I didn't know how well it would hold up to 50 mph or even 40 mph. It got me home though! I just wonder how much more life it has left in it after that ordeal.

mine was pretty terrible when I had to drop it. I was scared to have to run on the spare at all. Looked pretty much like your first picture.

may have been the smart thing to do, but this car sits so low (she is slammed) the thought of some hack in a roll back trying to load it up makes me shudder.

that's why you stand over them...preferably with something big and heavy. the few times i've had to call aaa the people who came out have been very professional and went out of their way to make sure they didn't damage the car

that actually made me laugh a bit.

I do have a service I use when I strip a car down for paint, and have it towed to the shop, but they do not service the area I live in. LIke any profession I am sure there are good and bad, but I prefer not to roll the dice if I have anything of value on the line.
