Re: WTB - I need the door glass guide (C4)
Jim - If the tool is available I would def use it. It can be done without it but that spanner nut is so tight with the thread lock it can be very frustrating. Just my .02 worth...
GC, if I decide to do my passenger side while it's fresh in my mind do you mind a quick loan of the socket?

Re: WTB - I need the door glass guide (C4)
I messaged Dan (Y-ME) and he mentions having likely a '94 glass as well as an earlier than '90 glass so he's going to lay them one on another and compare the holes. I read that the holes were changed many years ago but I'm not so sure, he can confirm. '90 and earlier glass is SoftRay, '91 is EZKool and it would be interesting to know what the '93+ door glass were. Were there actually changes physically to the glass or just the tint and maybe the sourcing. Anyone with a '94 or '95 want to confirm the branding on the door glass 'bug'?
If the glass matches then if a person cannibalized some '93+ doors for the guides then all years could be updated. |

Re: WTB - I need the door glass guide (C4)
Funny I checked this thread out tonight, as we had the ZR-1 out for dinner earlier, and I noticed the exact thing that is mentioned here is happening to my RS door glass, leaving a mark on the halo.......now I know how to correct the problem.....great info.....

Re: WTB - I need the door glass guide (C4)
Thanks for all the great info guys. I am in Florida (ZR-1 Road Trip) right now so I won't be doing this repair for a couple of weeks.
Note: The YellowZ has the mark on the halo on the drivers side also, but I never knew what caused it until now. A previous owner must have repaired the glass guide. Jim |

Re: WTB - I need the door glass guide (C4)
Did the RS today, and it was going real well, but the bolt removal KMA. Ended up using a snap ring 90* pliers to fit on the other side of the glass, as there are two small holes on that large "washer". I know some of this has been mentioned earlier, here are some pics. Also removed the "cover, plate" from the door to have more room to work. Took way longer than expected, but the job is done, and the window works great. Broken piece was in the bottom of the door, I just don't understand how these parts break like they do......
Next up, LS which should be much easier to install......

On a side note, there are 5 plastic push tabs at the bottom of the door panel. I used a tool that had a screw driver handle with a "U" at the end which worked great in removing those tabs. I found the best way was to use the tool between the top of the tab and the outside of the door panel, rather than using the tool in back of the door panel. May be common knowledge to some, but thought I would post the procedure, as these tabs can break very easily. I did not break any, as they popped right out. I am sure that the plastic trim tools would work just as well.....

Re: WTB - I need the door glass guide (C4)
Thanks for that info, didn't know when the change was made. Those retainers are expensive for a small part. I ordered one for a spare and will try to match it up with the ones that Home Depot or Lowes offers in their automotive section.
